Welcoming two new guides for 2026–2027.

Kezia Abara joins Lower Elementary from a Montessori school in Accra, and Marcus Treviño moves into a Primary lead role after three years as an assistant.

Two appointments to share before the summer closes, both of which took longer than we wanted and both of which were worth the wait.

Kezia Abara — Lower Elementary Lead Guide

Kezia joins us from a Montessori school in Accra, where she led a Lower Elementary community for six years and helped establish the school’s going-out program. She holds an AMS Elementary credential and an M.Ed., and she will take the second Lower Elementary community from September.

We interviewed nine candidates for this role. Kezia was the only one who, asked what she would do about a child who had stopped choosing work, spent four minutes on what she would observe before doing anything at all. That answer got her the job.

Marcus Treviño — Primary Lead Guide

Marcus has been an assistant in Primary for three years, completed his AMS Early Childhood credential this spring, and steps into a lead role in classroom two. Families who have watched him at dismissal will not be surprised.

The best argument for growing your own guides is that the children do not have to start over. Half of classroom two has known Marcus since they were three.

And one departure

Yuki Nakashima is taking a year’s leave to complete her AMI Elementary training in Bergamo. She intends to return in fall 2027 and we intend to hold her position. Her community will be with Kezia in the meantime, and Yuki has spent most of June writing handover notes of a thoroughness that tells you everything about her.
